Cities Alliance Request For Proposals for Research Services in four African countries

Through the Future Cities Africa (FCA) project, initiated by the UK Department for International Development (DFID) the Cities Alliance supports over 20 cities in four African countries (Ethiopia, Ghana, Mmozambique and Uganda) to anticipate and minimise future challenges in terms of climate, environment and natural resources - essentiallzy giving them the diaganostic and tools to future proof themselves to become inclusive, resilient and have growing economies.

Beyond the development of technnical assistance tools, the FCA aims also at funding a comprehensive set of reserach products. The lack of qualitative and quantitative data as well as related hypothesis and theories are key factors which undermine efforts to set up an effective research agenda to influence the morphology, governance, resource consumption and economy of African cities and translate into adquate tools and policies for cities.

Against this background the Cities Alliance identified four key areas which are pivotal for the future of African cities for which four independent research projects are required:

(1) Land Expansion and Planning (in Mozambique)

(2) Energy and Climate Change (in Ethiopia)

(3) Urban Governance and Service Delivery (in Ghana)

(4) Informality and Economic Growth (in Uganda).

Interested service providers can submit proposals for one or more of the research projects.

The RFP is attached. You may also find it by visiting the follow links:

Deadline for submission is 16 September 2015.

Any queries or clarifications on the RFP may be addressed to CAbids@unops.org by 3 September.

Please feel free to circulate the RFP document in your networks.
